Most weddings tend to happen in spring and summer - obviously the weather has a lot to do with that. Longer days and warmer temperatures make it easier to have events outdoors and there are fewer worries about travel. But a winter wedding has a charm of its own, especially when it involves a candlelit church ceremony, as Emma and Ollie's did. And a gorgeous and happy couple, of course!

A perfect sunny day, a gorgeous bride and bridesmaids, some handsome men in uniform, and the stunning locations of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Farnham Castle to work with - what more could a photographer want for a spectacular wedding?

You might not think of winter as being a good time for a portrait session - but actually as long as it's not pouring with rain it can be as good a time as any! Winter days tend to be overcast which provides nice soft even light. This is more flattering and easier to work with than the strong shadows of a very bright sunny day. And no squinting from the bright light either!

This wedding was a special pleasure to photograph, as my nephew Tom married the lovely Julie at Islington Town Hall. Family and friends gathered including a good contingent of Julie's relations from Winnipeg, Canada. The weather decided to be a bit "British", but apart from some occasional drizzle it stayed mostly dry, for which we were all thankful!

Brompton Oratory Christening photos When you’re only a few months old, you don’t really take much notice of where your christening ceremony happens. For Victoria’s parents and friends however the ideal place was the spectacular surroundings of London’s Brompton Oratory. Victoria’s older brother Carlos was baptised here too.

Kings Chapel Amersham wedding photos | Helen and Harj Helen and Harj’s wedding took place at a new venue for me – the King’s Chapel in Old Amersham, Buckinghamshire. Set in its own grounds behind the King’s Arms Hotel, it’s a converted 18th century chapel. It makes a great wedding venue as it’s spacious and airy inside with plenty of daylight and has a terrace with a shady garden behind the building.

A summer's day, a happy and relaxed couple, ceremony in a pretty church in a Surrey town just a few miles from me... sounds like a plan! Claire and Matthew were married at St. Mary & St. Nicholas Church in Leatherhead, Surrey. The church is the oldest building in Leatherhead. The present building was started in about 1150, and enlarged in later centuries. An earlier church was listed as being worth 20 shillings in Domesday Book. It seems you got more for your money in 1086!

The English Lake District is one of my favourite places, so I was delighted to be asked to photograph Kinga and Shiral's wedding at the Lodore Falls Hotel in Borrowdale. The hotel is right next to the famous waterfall that cascades down the hillside and out into Derwent Water. I had hoped to get some photos of Kinga and Shiral by the waterfall, but sadly the floods that Cumbria suffered in late 2015 have made the bridge across the stream unsafe. So the waterfall area is hard to reach unless you have a good pair of hiking boots - not something that goes with a wedding dress!

When editor Danielle Harvey of Your Surrey Wedding magazine contacted me to ask me to submit some images for possible use in the magazine I was happy to oblige. I didn't think much more about it, but was happily surprised when Danielle got in touch and said that she had selected one of my images for the front cover of the magazine's 60th issue!

Chelsea Registry office wedding Take a dash of London style, add a splash of Anglo-Indian heritage and then mix in some French joie de vivre, and you have the recipe for Stephanie and Raj’s wedding! Their wedding was a relaxed and intimate affair with family and close friends in attendance. Stephanie’s family and friends had travelled from France and Raj’s from the UK and from India, so it was quite an eclectic gathering. Kudos to Stephanie’s parents for making an excellent speech in English!

Now this was a fun party to photograph - for Tom's 50th birthday celebrations his wife Libby had asked everyone to come in fancy dress to match the party's James Bond theme. Some got into the spirit more than others, but there were some very creative costumes... At least two Blofelds (complete with white cat), a scuba diver from "Thunderball", a gold-clad Shirley Eaton lookalike from "Goldfinger", a very creative Octopussy, and a scarily realistic "Jaws" from "The Spy Who Loved Me". And the birthday boy came as Commander James Bond RNVR (who else?)

When I was asked by my colleague Ryan Browne to help out with covering Bobbie and Prav's wedding in Cheshire, I was happy to say "yes". Asian weddings in general and Hindu ceremonies in particular are always such happy and colourful occasions. Also I don't mind travelling away from my usual "patch" - it's fun to shoot somewhere new. So I loaded the camera gear into the car and headed up the M40 and M6...

Great people, a great venue, and... typical English weather - well two out of three isn't bad! It didn't actually rain on Katy & Dean's wedding day, but it was that classic English mix of overcast skies with a hint of sunshine here and there. The couple would probably prefer wall-to-wall sunshine of course, but from a photographer's point of view a softer day is not necessarily a bad thing. It means people don't get hot and sticky, and aren't dazzled by the sun.

Windsor family portrait No, not a portrait of the Windsor family (aka the Royal family!) but a family portrait session in Windsor… 🙂 When Nick contacted me to see if I could come and take some family photographs to commemorate his mother Nicole’s birthday, I was pleased to do so. Often these occasions go by unrecorded, or perhaps only by a few cellphone selfies, which is a shame when it’s an important milestone and family members have travelled around the globe to be there.

Many congratulations to Kim & Austin, who were married at the Church of Christ The King in Wimbledon Park a couple of Saturdays ago. When I met Kim and Austin last September to chat about their wedding plans I could tell that they were a relaxed and fun couple. I had a feeling that their wedding day would be equally unfussy - and so it proved to be. I started my coverage with the girls getting ready at their house in nearby Southfields. There was just time for a few portraits of Kim (looking fabulous!) before it was time to head off to the church.

Primary School Xmas Fair 2015

Primary School Xmas Fair 2015 It hardly seems a year since I was last at the Wonersh & Shamley Green Primary School Christmas Fair – and it’s reminded me how far behind I am with blogging… Anyway I was pleased to have a stand at the fair again this year to meet up with friends and families from both villages and chat about photography. I didn’t get as much time to take photos this time around as I did last year, as I was quite busy chatting to people on my stand, but I did manage to get a few snaps of Santa arriving, some of the stalls, and the children having fun. See you next year if not before!

Gate Street Barn is a beautiful and traditional country barn set in the Surrey countryside, with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. The barn is built of oak reclaimed from trees that were felled by the infamous 1987 “hurricane”. It’s located just south of Bramley, near Guildford in Surrey – it’s one of my favourite venues and also one of the closest!
