Oxfordshire country wedding | Friar’s Court | Anna & Adam
I have a small confession to make – this is one of a number of weddings that I’ve been meaning to blog about for ages but didn’t have time to do… thanks to the coronavirus lockdown however I’m now catching up a bit!
Anna & Adam’s wedding was quite memorable for a variety of reasons. First of all, it’s always a pleasure to shoot in the Oxfordshire countryside – all those honey-coloured stone villages and small country churches. In fact I shot two weddings in Oxfordshire that weekend as I was in Banbury for Lauren & Kieron’s wedding the next day. On this occasion I was working with my friend and colleague Wayne La.
It was a perfect summer’s day – just the occasional fluffy white cloud, but bright and warm and of course no rain!
Wedding ceremony at St Mary’s Buscot
Another reason it was memorable was because we were all very late for the ceremony – there had been an accident on the A40 and the police had closed the road. This meant a detour around the country lanes to get to the ceremony at St Mary’s Church, Buscot, on the River Thames between Lechlade and Faringdon. Fortunately everyone (except the vicar!) was delayed by the same amount of time, so the wedding was able to go ahead albeit an hour and a half late!
After the wedding ceremony the guests gathered in the churchyard for photographs. While Wayne photographed the formal groups I looked for natural moments as people chatted and greeted each other.
Once that was done, the couple got into their 1920s “gangster style” limo for the short drive to the reception at Friar’s Court.
Friar’s Court Oxfordshire country wedding reception
Friar’s Court has a long history, having originally been built by the Order of St. John aka the Knights Hospitallers. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries it became a private home.
Drinks were served in the gardens, and we took the opportunity to do a short private photo shoot with Anna and Adam around the gardens, while the guests were chatting and having drinks.
Then it was time to go into the Stone Barn for the wedding breakfast, and of course speeches and dancing!
Despite the slight drama of “getting to the church on time” I really enjoyed the day and it was a pleasure to photograph Anna & Adam’s wedding and to work with Wayne again.
As always, here’s a selection of my favourite photos from the day…
