Mayfair Library Wedding – Nina & Hasan

Mayfair Library Wedding – Nina and Hasan

It doesn’t matter whether a wedding is big or small, it’s all about two families coming together… and there is plenty for me to photograph! Nina and Hasan’s wedding was simple and straightforward – a civil ceremony in the Marylebone Room at the Mayfair Library register office in South Audley Street London W1, with some photos in the park afterwards.

They are planning a move overseas quite soon so having a small, intimate family wedding fitted in with their plans. (more…)

Park Hyatt Dubai wedding photos

The Park Hyatt in Dubai is a great venue for a wedding - located next to the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club in the heart of the city, but quiet and secluded. My clients, who live in Dubai, chose it as the location for their Christian wedding ceremony and reception, a couple of days after their spectacular African ceremony in the desert.

Surrey civil partnership: Kate & Izzy (part 2)

Here are some more shots from Kate & Izzy’s civil partnership at Langshott Manor… as you’ll see there were lots of happy faces – and some fun details for me to photograph – each guest was given a “world in a jar” (a Sempervivum plant) as a memento. And check out that Dr. Who Tardis ring box! How cool is that? 🙂

Although it wasn’t a sunny day, that was quite useful when it came to doing the family group photos – an overcast day means soft natural light with no hard shadows. For the photos of Izzy and Kate in the gardens I used my flash off-camera, as the daylight was beginning to fade by that time and it was quite dark under the trees and in the yew walk. Having some “portable sunshine” is very useful sometimes! (more…)

Langshott Manor wedding: Kate & Izzy (part 1)

Until Izzy and Kate asked me to help with their special day, I hadn’t photographed a Langshott Manor wedding, but I hope I get the opportunity to do so again – it’s a historic and elegant venue tucked away in the countryside near Crawley, not far from Gatwick Airport.

The main building is Elizabethan, so you have to watch your head sometimes and not rush round corners, but the atmosphere is very traditional and welcoming, and the elegant gardens provide some good spots for photographs! (more…)

Surrey village wedding – Kate & Stephen in Shere

Much as I enjoy shooting weddings in far-flung locations overseas, I’m also very fond of covering an intimate and traditional Surrey village wedding like Kate and Stephen’s.

They were married at St. James’s Church in Shere, a quiet and picture-perfect village in the Surrey Hills between Guildford and Dorking.

Kate’s family have lived in Shere for generations – in fact her parents and grandparents were also married in St James’ Church, which made the event extra special.

After the ceremony we did some family group photos in the churchyard, then everyone walked the short distance to Kinghams Restaurant at the other end of the village for the reception. (more…)

Surrey church wedding – Lydia & Ian

A Surrey church wedding is always a pleasure to photograph. Although I don't mind travelling to shoot weddings, this one was very close to home, being in Shalford and Cranleigh which are only a few miles away. I could tell when I first met Lydia & Ian that they were the kind of people who pretty much take everything in their stride and enjoy life to the full - which was just as well as their wedding day was one of the wettest we've had this summer.

Loseley Park wedding – Jo and Al

Loseley Park is a superb wedding venue and very local to me, so I was glad to be asked by Jo and Al to photograph their wedding there. The ceremony was ably officiated by the Rev Canon Mervyn Roberts at St Peter & St Paul Church in Godalming, with the reception taking place at Loseley Park. One very unusual feature of their wedding ceremony was the participation of Jo and Al's Newfoundland puppy Baloo, who acted as ringbearer, with the rings attached carefully to his collar! Baloo is clearly very important to Al and Jo, so having the go-ahead from the minister to include him in the ceremony was much appreciated I think.

Jo & Al’s engagement shoot in Godalming

I promised myself that next time I post about a portrait session I wouldn’t mention the weather, but it’s really hard not to, as it has such an effect on what we can do with the session… I’d been trying to find a time to shoot Jo and Al’s engagement session for a couple of weeks – either the timing didn’t work or it was pouring with rain, or so it seemed.

Anyway we finally fixed a time for last Saturday – and it was literally a case of looking at the weather forecast on the day to find an hour when it wasn’t going to be raining! Anyway we managed to find a gap and met in the Phillips Memorial Park in Godalming, down by the river Wey… (more…)

London Hindu wedding: Nina & Ryan at IOD Pall Mall SW1

I was delighted to help my colleague Steve Shipman photograph Nina and Ryan's London wedding at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall recently. I'm sometimes asked "what happens if you are unable to photograph our wedding for some reason?" The answer is that I belong to a network of photographers who all help each other out if any of us needs it. It's a good system, as in most cases there is someone available who can cover, even at short notice, which gives everybody peace of mind.

Hartsfield Manor wedding – Liz and Jonathan

Hartsfield Manor is a great place to have a wedding. Tucked away in the Surrey countryside, this elegant manor house makes it easy for everyone to relax and have an enjoyable time, with everything under one roof.

Liz and Jonathan did just that – with a happy bunch of family and friends to help them celebrate. After the civil ceremony everyone congregated on the terrace for drinks. After the family group photos I took Jonathan and Liz off to photograph them with the amazing autumn colours in the grounds of the manor…

Justine & Ray’s wedding at St Lawrence Effingham & Woodlands Park Hotel

What’s the most important thing at a wedding?

Not the venue, the church, the flowers, the food (or even the photographer!) – but having all your family and friends with you to help celebrate the day. And that’s exactly what Justine and Ray had – parents, siblings, kids, cousins, nieces and nephews… and as a result it was a brilliant day.

The weather was being “British”, of course, but that didn’t matter – we were able to do some group photos outside the church and a few more at Woodlands Park, Surrey – and then we continued indoors with photos of the bride and groom. No problem! (more…)

Aviator Hotel wedding Farnborough

Aviator Hotel Wedding Farnborough

I’ve photographed at lots of venues ranging from English country houses to London hotels to French mountain chapels to Caribbean beaches, but I don’t think I’ve ever shot a wedding at a venue quite like The Aviator Hotel in Farnborough, Hampshire.

Both inside and outside it has sweeping curves that seem to be both ultra-modern and have a touch of Thirties glamour as well.

Anyway it was the perfect location for S and J’s wedding (they’ve asked me to use their initials for privacy reasons).

S’s fabulous dress picked up the black and white colour scheme too. And with family and friends flying in from as far afield as Australia and the Middle East it was a suitably international affair. Plus I should give a big round of applause to S and J for their dancing skills – they had invested a lot of time and effort into learning a really skilful choreographed first dance, and it was a huge hit!
