Sunshine at the Swan Hotel, Bedford

Here in the south-east of England we’ve been having an unseasonal mini-heatwave, with hardly any rain for the past month and many days of blue sky and sunshine.

It was just such a day on Saturday April 8th when Andrew Dobell and I travelled up the M1 to Bedford to photograph the wedding of Nat and Rob.

The ceremony and reception were both held at the historic Swan Hotel in the middle of Bedford, right by the Great Ouse river which flows through the town – and which of course has plenty of swans on it! (more…)

Spring wedding at Fulham Palace

Finally, it seems that Spring has sprung! Last Saturday the sun was shining and cherry blossom was starting to make an appearance, as I drove up to Hammersmith to shoot a wedding in conjunction with the estimable Mr. Lloyd Dobbie.

Jo and Tristan’s ceremony took place at Holy Trinity Church, Brook Green, and the reception was held in the elegant surroundings of Fulham Palace. (more…)

Eve and Chris at Ramster, Chiddingfold

So, for my final (stills) wedding job of 2010 I was off to Ramster near Chiddingfold, Surrey, in the company of local colleague Andrew Dobell, to photograph the winter wedding of Eve and Chris.

It was a very cold day, with snow on the ground, but the weather didn’t spoil the party – the blazing log fire in the Long Hall kept everyone warm, and there was definitely a touch of the approaching festive season in the air… (more…)

Karen & Nico: red & white roses in London W1

Last Saturday the venue was London West One – Portman Square in fact – for the wedding of Nico and Karen, shooting alongside Mr. Lloyd Dobbie

The weather was touch-and-go – a concern because the plan was to hold the ceremony in the park just across from the Churchill Hyatt Regency Hotel, where the reception was held. Fortunately the few spots of rain came to nothing, and the wedding was able to go ahead outdoors. (more…)

Cambridge pre-wedding shoot | Elaine & Tony

A couple of weeks ago I drove up to Cambridge to do a pre-wedding photo-shoot for Elaine and Tony, with my colleague Chanelle.Elaine studied at Cambridge so having a photo shoot in the familiar (and spectacular!) surroundings of the colleges and historic buildings had special meaning for her. Elaine and Tony are getting married in Hong Kong later in the year but they wanted a special photo session in a variety of locations, without the time-pressure of the wedding day.

Alison and Nick at Weston Park

A couple of weekends ago I was off up the M40 and M6 to Stafford again, to cover a fabulous wedding with my colleague Gill Taylor. This time the occasion was Alison and Nick's wedding at Weston Park, a spectacular 17th century mansion set in acres of parkland. The weather had decided to be "British" and it rained all morning - but it stopped in time for the ceremony, and in any case we had the splendid interiors of the mansion to work with, so it didn't really matter.

Digital Wedding Forum “A Day In The Life”

Every so often the members of the Digital Wedding Forum (a worldwide association of professional wedding and portrait photographers which I help to run) decide to do a “day in the life” shoot.

Essentially what this means is that people go out and take pictures on a designated day, to give a glimpse of their everyday lives or some aspect of the locale in which they live… (more…)
