Turks & Caicos beach wedding | Layla & Paul
I will confess to being a little nervous about shooting this wedding, as both Paul and Layla are very into photography, and were looking for something out of the ordinary for their destination wedding in the Turks & Caicos Islands.
And on top of that, two good photographer friends of mine from their home-town of Gainesville, FL – Matt and Krystal Radlinski of Verve Studio, had recommended me to them. Matt & Krystal are shooting Paul and Layla’s reception back home in Florida. But I needn’t have worried – Paul and Layla were relaxed, fun and very easy to work with – so much so that we decided to add on a short “day after” session on Monday, so we could get some shots in daylight around the resort.
Turks & Caicos beach wedding
This was a fairly typical Turks & Caicos beach wedding – just a few guests and a very laid back feel. In fact just Layla and Paul’s parents were present (along with the minister and wedding planner Teresa Brunner of TropicalDMC of course). Some destination weddings have 100+ guests but more often couples decide to get married on a tropical beach because they want something simpler and more low-key than the traditional big wedding celebration.
I met with Layla and Paul in their hotel room at the Gansevoort to take some “getting ready” pictures before the ceremony. Fortunately there was plenty of time for me to do some creative shots using the artwork on the walls of the room and also with the frosted sliding door to the bathroom. Then we headed to the beach for the ceremony which was ably conducted by Pastor Sherlock Padmore. After some champagne and the cutting of the cake, we (of course) did some photos on the beach as the sun was setting.
One advantage of a smaller wedding like this when the couple is really into photography is that we can take the time to get a wider variety of pictures. With Layla and Paul I carried on shooting after sunset, and as well as using beach locations we did some pictures around the hotel.
I also met up with them the day after for yet more pictures! These two were a photographer’s dream couple! 🙂
OK that’s enough background information from me – let’s get to the photographs…
So a big thank you to Paul and Layla for making the wedding such a fun and memorable one for me.
