While I’m very happy with the quality of the albums that I get from my two main suppliers, Jorgensen and GF Smith, I’m always on the lookout for something different to offer my clients, and at the SWPP show in January I came across a new range of books from Folio Albums.
I was very impressed by the quality and simplicity of their products, and decided to order a sample album from them.
And here it is! Folio Albums are different from most album suppliers, in that they only use genuine leather for their covers, and their books are printed on a matt fine-art paper, not the normal glossy or lustre photographic paper that most album makers use. The giclée printing method enables reproduction of vivid colours that can’t be printed using a conventional photo printing process, and gives greater fade-resistance.
Another plus is that they use sustainable sources for the materials that go into the albums, and the packaging is made from recycled materials too, and the books are made entirely in the UK so the carbon footprint is fairly low.
The pages themselves are thinner than most albums, and together with the matt finish on the paper this means you have to be a little more careful when handling the books. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing!
They are a little dearer than other options, but I think the extra is worth it for the quality and for an album that’s really out of the ordinary. The books are available in 10″ x 10″ or 12″ x 12″ sizes, with replica 6″ x 6″ canvas-covered parents’ albums also available. Blind embossing of your names on the cover is an available option, and there are ten leather colours to choose from.
Here are some photos – see what you think! And of course I will be bringing the actual sample album with me to meetings. Read more about my album range here.
