Tour de France 2014 stage 3 London
I happened to be in central London yesterday so decided to watch the end of stage 3 of this year’s Tour de France professional cycle race. “Le Tour” has been a huge hit in the UK this year with literally millions of spectators turning out to watch, and as you might expect it was pretty crowded along the route towards the finish in central London!
I didn’t even attempt to fight my way through the crowds to the finish line on The Mall – instead I decided to head for the Embankment instead.
Even though it wasn’t quite as crowded, it was clear that you really needed to be in place several hours in advance to get the best view. I thought I had found a really good spot to take pictures from to begin with, but sadly got moved on by the race stewards as I was the wrong side of the safety barriers! So I had to walk further down the Embankment away from the Houses of Parliament, in search of another location where I could see the race – easier said than done!
As a result, these are mostly “people pictures”, with fewer photos of the actual race than I would have liked, as I had to shoot over the top of people’s heads from row 3 of the crowd! But hopefully you will get an idea of the atmosphere of this amazing event. 🙂
